Hello Friends! I'm so excited to share that my new Kindle book "Queen Of The At-Home Lifestyle - A gal's guide to working-from-home, homemaking and homeschooling"" is AVAILABLE on Amazon for all of you who're craving for a slice of purposeful home life!!! And the icing on the cake: it made it to the Amazon Best Seller List :)! Packed with tips on setting up a self-employed, work-from-home career and using homemaking rituals to boost your work-life balance, and also adding homeschooling to the mix - this book's for you if you're looking to carve out a happy, purposeful work + stay-at-home lifestyle, during the pandemic and beyond. Download your copy here (and let me know how you liked it).
Keeping with the rhythm of the book, in the Brigade that Builds Brands series, I'd like to introduce you to Tanvee Chaudhary, a sassy, work-from-home, military spouse Solopreneur. This young Navy wife has set up her own fashion label from home, and works her sewing/designing magic as she moves from one base to another. Yes, agreed that most of the time the Indian Navy has better posting places than our Air Force and Army ones, but this gal has the zeal to make her work work wherever she is on the map (hint hint: let's lose the emphasis on our geographical location and focus on what we can do, from wherever we are ;-)).
What I Super Like about Tanvee Chaudhary and her Label Tanvee is her passion for her craft (she designs, sews, markets, ships out orders, models her dresses & connects with customers ALL on her own), her earthy designs executed on Indian handloom fabric, and her determination to carve out her own niche with joy. And of course, not to forget, her solo brand is just what earth-friendly, Slow Fashion is all about.
Let's dive into this interview and be ready to be inspired! And hey, check out the SPECIAL DISCOUNT that Tanvee is offering the first 3 readers of this story (offer at the end of the interview).
CB. What has been your business or creative journey been like: how & when did you start your venture?

CB. Please tell us something about yourself – what do you do, where are you based and how long have you been a fauji/military wife.
TC. Hello, I am Tanvee Chaudhary. I am an engineer and marketer by education. However, my heart lies in designing and fashion. So, I founded LabelTanvee, a clothing brand where you can find eclectic mix of handmade clothing with a pinch of tadka.
Since the last three years I have been married to a Naval Officer and we are currently based out of Goa. Yay!!

CB. What has been your business or creative journey been like: how & when did you start your venture?
TC. Fashion Designing has always been my calling. When I was a kid, I used to design and sew clothes for my barbie doll. However, I did not realize that it was my passion until the summer of 2019 and that is when I founded LabelTanvee. I started LabelTanvee as a hobby, but my friends and family encouraged me to sell my collection online. So now we are a small business on social media. My education (MBA in marketing) helped me to make the right use of social media resources and achieve quick results.

CB. Fauji wives make their home in an assortment of obscure places across the country. Our lives are about living in the moment and doing what we can, when we can. Can you share how you stayed creative or found work that satisfied you while moving across the country?
TC. I was working in Mumbai before my marriage, but my husband was posted in Goa. I did not have many good work opportunities in Goa. I have always been busy studying or working in life so sitting idle at home was not an option for me. My idle mind became a creative workshop and I started fashion designing. The calm and serene environment in Goa has further enriched my creativity. Here I can focus on my work without the hustle and bustle of big cities.

CB. How do you market your business and products while moving from base to base, place to place?
TC. I always relied on local resources for my business. I explored many cities and remote places like villages around Jaipur, Ajrakhpur in Kutch, Surat, Ahmedabad etc to source material for LabelTanvee. So, wherever Navy took me, I explored the places in its vicinity and whatever was reachable for me.
When I started LabelTanvee, I was in Goa, then moved to Ahmedabad and now back to Goa. So far, LabelTanvee has been immune to all the switching of places. On the contrary, I used it as an opportunity to always explore new avenues and form relationships with local vendors.
LabelTanvee products are sold online so this gives me freedom to shift my base along with my husband and keep the business up and running.

CB. As a creative/entrepreneur + fauji wife, is there something that you cherish very much about being part of this community? And is there something you feel must/can change for the better?
TC. The best part of Fauji community is that it is a close knit one. So, people are always supportive and helpful without any altruistic motives. Also, the stories of other Fauji wives inspired me to follow my passion. When you cannot have a stable job then you look for other options. I have met some remarkably successful Fauji wife entrepreneurs in this community. However, we must evolve and change with time to become more flexible.

CB. What tips would you give to fauji wives out there who’d like to pursue a career in your field while living at small and busy bases (many still believe or led to believe that you can either be a fauji wife or a professional, and that’s not true)?
TC. I believe in having and identity for myself and being independent. Along with being proud of my husband, I also want to cherish some of my achievements in life. So, if one has the zeal to do something then everything is possible.
With the evolution of internet, many things have become tremendously simpler than they were ten years back. You can buy and sell online sitting at a remote location. Internet has lot of solution to business problems and myriad of opportunities in fashion field.
Women are multitasking by nature and they are good managers so we can always maintain the work life balance. If you talk about fashion designing, you can be thinking of a new design even while doing the mundane routine activities, the best ideas strike when you are not actually thinking about them. So, make best use of the available resources and most importantly believe in yourself!
